Pécs – European Capital of Culture 2010

Pécs is Hungary’s fifth biggest city with 158,000 inhabitants, an industrial town and at the same time, South-Hungary’s economic centre. With 35,000 students, Pécs is the second biggest university town after Budapest. The surrounding area (Baranya County) means a consumer-base of some 400,000 inhabitants.

The charming inner-city of Pécs with numerous promenades, tiny streets and coffee shops gratefully attracts crowds of tourists. UNESCO has listed the inner-city as a World Heritage site since 2000 and for 2010, the town has received the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture.
