Pécs – European Capital of Culture 2010

Pécs is Hungary’s fifth biggest city with 158,000 inhabitants, an industrial town and at the same time, South-Hungary’s economic centre. With 35,000 students, Pécs is the second biggest university town after Budapest. The surrounding area (Baranya County) means a consumer-base of some 400,000 inhabitants.

The charming inner city of Pécs with numerous promenades, tiny streets and coffee shops gratefully attracts crowds of tourists. UNESCO has listed the inner city as a World Heritage site since 2000 and for 2010, the town has received the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture.
